How To Begin A Chosen 300 Homeless Outreach At Your Church
|
The Chosen 300 Ministries Co-Op Program The Co-Op program is an agreement we make with local churches and organizations to commit to feeding the homeless one Monday, Wednesday, Friday or Saturday a month. Churches & organizations are provided with workshop(s), instruction, and ongoing support through Chosen 300 Ministries to better equip them for this type of ministry. HOW TO GET STARTED!!
- Make sure there is a $600 budget per feeding ($300 if you are interested in our West Philadelphia or Pottstown Site) for a core group in your church to work with. Most churches use their mission budget as a source for these funds.
- Locate a responsible person in your church / organization that would be willing and able to lead up a homeless outreach in your church (No experience needed).
- Arrange a Sunday that I can come to present the program to the church to attract an interested group. The team leader that you assign should be able to collect names / phone numbers of the interested group and be my key source of contact for your church.
- After we determine that a reasonable size core group is available (normally at least 25 people is a good size group); A workshop date should be set up for my staff members and myself to come in and train the core group. The training session normally takes about 1hr and 1/2.
- By the time the core group has been trained a target date for the outreach to begin should be scheduled.
RESPONSIBILITIES OF CORE GROUP
- Establish one group leader that will be responsible for contact with Chosen 300 Ministries and lead the operation (as mentioned above).
- Reporting to that group leader there should be:
- 1 or 2 cooking teams with a lead cook. Groups may decide to have the same or different people in charge of purchasing.
- A person in charge of transportation.
- A person in charge of the worship service. (ie. Making sure there is a Minister or Deacon to give the 5-10 min. evening message, someone to lead the praise songs, someone to pray and read the scripture)
- A person in charge of serving groups/church involvement. (Note: Although not required, I recommend that 3 auxiliaries in the church will be selected each session to go down to serve with a portion of the core group. This factor helps to have the entire church evolved, which in-turn stimulates comradely, brotherhood and good will within the congregation)
These are the main factors to develop the homeless program at your church. However, the training will provide more insight.
SUPPORT OF THE LOCAL CHURCH/ORGANIZATIONS Churches & Organizations that partner with us in our Co-Op Program are only responsible for the cost of food. We do ask that each church consider operational cost of Chosen 300 and give periodically to support the operational cost of having the program.
In addtion, once per year, a representative from Chosen 300 will visit each congregation to encourage members to support Chosen 300 during the United Way Fall Campaign. This also gives us the opportunity to applaud the congregation for their support and validate their mission efforts with Chosen 300.
